West Valley Hospital Names First Board Members of New Hospital

Nine Valley business and healthcare leaders have been named to represent the first board of trustees for the West Valley Hospital. The board consists of members who are active in healthcare and the development of the West Valley cities served by the West Valley Hospital (WVHMC).
The chairman of the board is Phoenix radiation oncologist John Dover, M.D. Dr. Dover has served as president of Valley Radiation Oncology, Ltd. since 1993 and has practiced with the group since 1989. He is currently the chairman of the radiation oncology department at Phoenix Memorial Hospital and was chief of staff at Phoenix Memorial Hospital from 1998 to 2002. Dr. Dover will serve a three-year term on the board.
Adolfo Gamez, Mayor, City of Tolleson, will serve a three-year term as vice-chairman. Mayor Gamez is a Tolleson native and graduate of Northern Arizona University. He has been a member of the Tolleson City Council for 21 years: two years as council member; 12 years as Vice Mayor and seven years as Mayor. Mayor Gamez is active in several community organizations including President Elect for the Southwest Valley Hispanic Forum.
Other members of the board are: Doug Wilson, Agua Fria Union High School Superintendent serving a three-year term; Fred Fingerhut, M.D., obstetrician/gynecologist with the Estrella Women's Health Center serving a one-year term; Larry Shank, M.D., orthopedic surgeon with West Valley Orthopedics serving a two-year term; Vicki Copeland, M.D., family practitioner with Desert Sky Family Practice serving a two-year term; Dustin C. Jones, an attorney with Lewis & Roca serving a two-year term; Marcia Ellis, executive director of the West Valley Fine Arts Council serving a one-year term and Debra A. Flores, administrator/chief operating officer of the West Valley Hospital Medial Center.
West Valley Hospital is a 74-bed, acute care facility in Goodyear, Arizona focused on bringing comprehensive healthcare services to the Southwest Valley. Serving the populations of Goodyear, Tolleson, Buckeye and Litchfield Park, the West Valley Hospital Medical Center was designed to provide services in highest demand, from state-of-the-art obstetrics, to medical and surgical services, cardiology, intensive care and a full-service emergency department. The West Valley Hospital will open late August 2003.
